Best High Schools according to U.S. News Ranking

Best High Schools

To many parents, choosing a high school is a hard task that requires thinking about a number of various aspects. What they do not take into account is that a high school has a great impact on what and how students will do in college.

Choosing a high school for children takes a lot of time and effort to find out which one provides the best education and preparation for college life. The US News Today, has released the 4th edition of the best high schools in the US, it is available online only. In December 2009, the rankings included only 1,800 schools. However, the 2012 rankings include about 22,000 public high schools from 49 states and the District of Colombia.

The said effort was a coordination of US News Today and the American Institutes for Research. The schools were ranked according to how their students passed standardized exams and how they are ready for college life.

This year, many schools from California received gold medals from US News. The Golden State has the largest number of gold medal high schools. New York has 68 gold medals schools while Texas has 46.

The top spot for the 2012 listing was garnered by TAG, aka the School for the Talented and Gifted. In 2009, TAG was only fifth, but now it has snatched the leadership over Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

Thanks to these rankings, parents have the chance to compare schools in terms of student-teacher ratios, how ready students are for college, and their performance in Math and Science tests.
