Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has signed House Bill 797 which would give the voters a power to decide on matters regarding the reestablishment of the Georgia Charter Schools Commission – an agency whose function is approving and funding new schools. If the amendment gets passed, the state is free to decide on its own in opening charter schools even without the local school board’s permission.

’10 Downing Street’ is an economic policy simulation game in which students assume the British Prime Minister’s role. For 80 minutes, six student groups will tackle and argue on policy options that would help them develop a strategic sequence of action. The most supported option is put into practice that stimulates appearing a new set of debates. Gayle Allard, an economics professor in IE Business School, Madrid and the game founder reveals that the game’s objectives are to encourage collaboration between groups (rather than competition). They should be able to plan an effective course of action in answering concerning economic dilemma. That is why students should understand that implementing a policy is not child’s play – one decision can affect your future choices.

As the European recession continues, and political struggle does so as well, many addle upon the possible cure. Among the most alarmed is Britain, with one of its largest banks on the verge of collapse. Options for British government are few: bailing it out, shoring it up, or… leaving it to its fate; and this decision is up to the Prime Minister. At any rate, the financial sector suffers turbulence.

New Tests – New Problems

New Tests

A new wave of indignation was recorded in England. The National Association of Head Teachers opposed this year tests for the 11-year-old pupils (SAT test).  They stated that such tests were just a waste of money that could be better used for teachers’ training.

The conference on this issue reported a unanimous decision of the Head teachers to forbid those tests. They stated if they were not trusted to teach punctuation and spelling, they would refuse to cooperate with any further tests.

New rules to limit student-teacher social networking

Digital rules have been recently laid out for New York City public schoolteachers by the Education Department. According to them, teachers are limited in connections with their students using social networks like Facebook or Twitter. These rules currently have a status of “strong recommendations” with no consequences for disobedience.

Wounded Knee is a special place that is held by heart among American Indians. It is the home of the last major conflict of the Indian wars known as the Wounded Knee Massacre that happened in 1890 where 200 to 300 Sioux Indians were killed by federal forces. Recently, it was seized by about 200 armed activists that were brought in by the Oglala.
