The UK Labour Party is calling for a significant improvement in teaching standards in FE colleges. According to a group advising the party, teaching staff of FE colleges must have good GCSE grades in maths and English if they want to teach students. In addition to that, the group pledges that all teachers should spend time in industry every year in order to raise their practical skills. Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for DfE announced that teaching in FE colleges needs decisive action to be taken in order to transform vocational education.

According to a recent report called the Chronicle of Higher Education, high salaries of presidents of public universities continued to rise in fiscal year 2011-12 despite the fact that student debt as well as tuition skyrocketed. According to the report, the median salary of US college chiefs rose by 5%, with the median pay topping $400,000.

A number of 11-year-olds are about to face new overhauled grammar tests in England. This new national education test overhaul is coming to English schools shortly. Taken by the children in their final year of primary school, the tests will include grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Pupils will also be asked a number of questions on nouns, adverbs, adjectives and pronouns. They will be asked to spell words that are often spelled wrong, like “separate”, “necessary”, and “preferred”. The government has already released specimen questions.

The Latest Survey of the UK Employers

According to the official statistics known as the Higher Education Initial Participation Rate (or HEIRP), 49% of youngsters living in England were inclined to receive an academic degree in 2011, but this number grew by 3% in 2012. Girls were eager to study at universities to a greater extent than boys (55% versus 45%). However, the head of the Office for Fair Access, Les Ebdon, said that the increase of tuition fees might reduce these figures in the near future.
